Daily Market Highlights (03.12.2018)

  • The MSE Equity Price Index retreated for the second consecutive session with a further 0.16% drop to a fresh 4-week low of 4,470.273 points. Today, the Index was dragged lower by declines in BOV, FIMBank and Trident. On the other hand, Malta International Airport and Mapfre Middlesea edged higher whilst a further four equities ended the day unchanged.   • The RF MGS Index climbed higher for the third consecutive day as it added a further 0.06% to reach a one-month high of 1,085.270 points. Movements in Malta Government Stocks prices reflected changes in the yields of euro peripheral countries which, in turn, trended sharply lower amid perceived lower risks across international financial markets after the US agreed with China to temporarily delay raising tariffs on Chinese imports. On its part, China agreed to increase its share of purchases of agricultural, industrial and energy products from the US, whilst both countries also decided to enhance the dialogue with each other on other matters related to trade.
  • Bank of Valletta plc kicked off the month of December in negative territory with a 1.5% decline back to the €1.31 level across ten deals totalling 122,249 shares.
  • Similarly, FIMBank plc eased 0.6% lower back to the USD0.785 level on shallow volumes of 2,635 shares.
  • The only other negative performing equity was Trident Estates plc with a 0.7% drop to €1.54 across three deals totalling 97,000 shares.
  • On the other hand, Malta International Airport plc edged 0.8% higher to €6.20 albeit on insignificant volumes of 925 shares.
  • Mapfre Middlesea plc also trended in positive territory with a 0.5% uplift to €1.99 across two deals totalling 11,480 shares.
  • Meanwhile, HSBC Bank Malta plc held on to the €1.80 level on volumes of 10,495 shares.
  • Likewise, Medserv plc traded unchanged during today’s sessions as a further 12,499 shares were exchanged at the €1.20 level.
  • In the property segment, Malita Investments plc also closed today’s session unchanged at the €0.87 level after failing to hold on to an intra-day high of €0.89 across six deals totalling 27,330 shares.
  • RS2 Software plc recovered from an intra-day low of €1.10 to also end today’s session unchanged at the €1.15 level on volumes of 57,108 shares.
