Daily Market Highlights (08.07.13)

  • The MSE Share Index edged 0.2% higher during this morning’s session to 3,436.152 points mainly due to the 1.1% rise in the share price of HSBC. RS2 Software also trended higher whilst MIA and Farsons moved lower. On the other hand, the only other active equity, BOV, ended the session unchanged. Download a copy of the Equity Market Summary.
  • On the bond market, the Rizzo Farrugia MGS Index eased from last Friday’s 2-month high as the Central Bank reduced the prices of a number of the long-term Malta Government Stocks.
  • RS2’s share price closed at a fresh all-time high of €1.31 on total activity amounting to 10,900 shares with lowest offers now in the market at €1.33. The equity of RS2 has continued to perform positively in recent weeks following the confirmation that a UK bank is seeking to purchase at least 10% of the company. A due-diligence process is set to be underway and the market awaits further announcements in due course.
  • Meanwhile, after rising to a new record of €2.10 last Friday in reaction to the announcement of a 9.2% increase in passenger movements during the first six months of the year, the share price of MIA gave back some of last week’s gains as it shed 1.9% to €2.06 on volumes of 15,700 shares. Late Friday afternoon, WizzAir announced that the Budapest-Malta route that was launched this summer will continue during the winter months following the success it has already registered since its first flights in May.
  • In the banking sector, HSBC regained the €2.73 level on continued low volumes of 2,050 shares.
  • On the other hand, BOV’s equity continues to register increased activity with over 22,000 shares changing hands today. The equity held on to the €2.27 level after briefly touching €2.26.
  • The only other active equity was Simonds Farsons Cisk which eased minimally lower to €2.761 on a single trade of 467 shares.
  • The reporting seasons starts next week with the publication of the interim financial statements of Plaza Centres and Medserv next Monday.
