Daily Market Highlights (11.12.15)

  • The MSE Share Index trended lower for the second consecutive session with a further 0.2% drop to 4,486.643 points as most of the large equities by market capitalisation slipped into negative territory. Despite the declines over the past two days, the local equity benchmark still closed the week 0.4% higher. Download a copy of today’s Equity Market Summary.
  • On the bond market, the RF MGS Index edged marginally higher to 1,142.298 points as the benchmark 10-year German Bund yield slipped back to the 0.56% level on inflation concerns triggered by the slump in the oil price to fresh 6-year lows.
  • The share price of Bank of Valletta plc eased 0.2% back to the €2.33 level on shallow volumes of 7,882 shares. The Bank is scheduled to hold its Annual General Meeting next Thursday 17 December during which shareholders will be asked to approve a number of resolutions including those related to the dividend and bonus share issue as well as the election of six directors from the seven nominees.
  • Similarly, the equity of HSBC Bank Malta plc shed 0.5% to the €1.781 level across six deals totalling 18,756 shares.
  • Amongst the large cap equities, Malta International Airport plc slipped by 1.2% from its all-time high of €4.05 back to the €4.00 level albeit on shallow volumes of 1,356 shares.
  • Likewise, the equity of RS2 Software plc failed to hold on to its all-time high of €3.12 with a 0.2% drop in the share price to €3.095 across 35,000 shares.
  • The only other negative performing equity was Malita Investments plc with a 0.5% decline back to the €0.985 level across a single trade of 5,000 shares.
  • On the other hand, the share price of Plaza Centres plc moved 3.1% higher to regain the €1.00 level albeit on insignificant volumes of just 16 shares.
  • Meanwhile, GO plc maintained the €2.90 level after the equity failed to hold on to an intra-day high of €2.95. Volumes remained high with a total of 95,500 shares changing hands across thirteen deals.
  • Likewise, Malta Properties Company plc closed the day unchanged at the €0.50 level on volumes of 91,625 shares.
  • The only other active equity was Medserv plc with just 500 shares changing hands at the €2.12 level, representing no change from the previous closing price. Earlier this week, the Company announced that it submitted an application to the Listing Authority for the approval of a Prospectus in connection with the issuance of unsecured bonds and ordinary shares (to be issued pursuant to a rights issue). Further detailed information on the dual issue shall be announced by the Company following the approval of the Listing Authority.
