Daily Market Highlights (14.09.15)

  • During this morning’s trading session, the MSE Share Index again surpassed the 4,300 mark and advanced by 0.25% to 4,306.637 points mainly on gains in Bank of Valletta plc and RS2 Software plc which outweighed losses in four other equities. Download a copy of today’s Equity Market Summary.
  • On the bond market, the RF MGS Index eased by 0.2% to 1,123.698 points despite the decrease in the benchmark 10-year German Bund yield to 0.67% this morning. It is worth highlighting that the eurozone benchmark yield eased lower to 0.64% earlier on this afternoon.
  • Bank of Valletta plc closed 1.8% higher to regain the €2.30 level on volumes of 37,460 shares and RS2 Software plc traded up to another all-time high as the equity edged up 0.8% to €2.52, albeit on shallow volumes of 2,484 shares.
  • Also in the financial services sector, Lombard Bank Malta plc ended the session up by 0.9% to €2.14 across 31,025 after recovering from an intra-day low of €2.10.
  • On the other hand, Malta International Airport plc shed 1.2% and closed at the €3.85 level also on light volumes of 2,355 shares sent the equity.
  • However, the worst performer of the day was Plaza Centres plc as a single trade of 65,000 shares was executed at the €1.00 level representing a 4.8% decline from its previous close.
  • Also in the property sector, the equity of Malita Investments plc shed 0.9% to €0.93 across 75,000 shares.
  • The other negative performer of the day was HSBC Bank Malta plc as the equity retreated by 0.3% to €1.84 across five deals totalling 23,800 shares.
  • Meanwhile, all other equities traded unchanged. FIMBank plc’s equity was active for the first time since 14 August. The share price maintained the USD0.45 level across 32,679 shares.
  • Mapfre Middlesea plc retained its multi-year high of €2.25 across two deals of 5,000 shares. Likewise, 5,000 shares were transacted in International Hotel Investments plc as the equity closed unchanged at the €0.80 level.
