Daily Market Highlights (16.02.11)

  • MSE Share Index retreats by 0.34% to close at 3,839.436 points mainly on declines in IHI and MIA. Meanwhile, MaltaPost closes at a new multi-year high of €1.10 with few changes in the share prices of the large banks. Download a copy of today’s Equity Market Summary .
  • The Rizzo Farrugia MGS Index closed minimally higher at 979.412 points as longer dated MGS bid prices revised higher. The European benchmark 10-year Bund yield ease to 3.23% and this could be reflected in a further upward adjustment in MGS prices tomorrow. Meanwhile, subscriptions for the two new Malta Government Stock issue closed today for applications up to a maximum of €100,000 while tenders for applications in excess of €100,100 (nominal) must be lodged by Friday 18 February at 12 noon.
  • BOV’s share price closes unchanged at the €3.05 level after the equity drops to a low of €3.01. Over 28,000 shares exchanged today across 24 trades. BOV’s Interim Statement on 4 February revealed fair mark downs during the first quarter of its financial year and the share price has since declined by 2.5%. Further details available here.
  • Few trades in HSBC shares ahead of the results publication on Friday. Equity edges minimally lower to €3.499 with offers of a further 19,593 shares remaining unsatisfied at the closing level.
  • MaltaPost’s share price continues to rally and closes at a new all-time high of €1.10 on trading activity of only 3,000 shares. The postal operator’s share price has already climbed by 10% this year.
  • GO’s equity recovers most of yesterday’s 3.8% drop as the share price rises by 2.8% to €1.85. However volumes also remain low with only 1,000 shares changing hands today.
  • MIA’s equity slips by 0.6% to close at the €1.80 level also on low volumes of 2,000 shares. Yesterday a local newspaper reported that MIA has been ranked as top airport in Europe in the annual ACI Airport Service Quality (ASQ) passenger survey.
  • IHI slides 3.1% to €0.94 over a single trade totalling 10,000 shares . Offers of almost 25,000 shares in the market at €0.97 with best bids at €0.701.
