Daily Market Highlights (17.09.15)

  • The MSE Share Index eased minimally lower to 4,302.231 points as various large equities by market capitalisation trended in negative territory. Download a copy of today’s Equity Market Summary.
  • On the bond market, the RF MGS Index eased a further 0.2% lower to 1,119.545 points as the benchmark 10-year German Bund yield continued to hover around the 0.78% level. Investors around the globe are now awaiting the decision of the US Federal Reserve to be published this afternoon following the completion of their 2-day monetary policy meeting on whether it will increase interest rates or postpone the rate hike.
  • Most notably, the share price of HSBC Bank Malta plc eased 1.1% lower back to the €1.83 level across three deals totalling 31,495 shares.
  • Similarly, the equity of GO plc dropped for the second time this week with a decline of a further 0.6% back to the €3.45 level on shallow volumes of 4,000 shares. Yesterday, GO announced that it will be convening an Extraordinary General Meeting on Thursday 29 October during which shareholders will be asked to authorise the Board to seek bids for the entire issued share capital of the Company and disclose any information required by potential bidders.
  • Malta International Airport plc shares also shed 0.3% to fall back to the €3.89 level albeit on a single trade of 750 shares.
  • RS2 Software plc also performed negatively as the share price shed 0.4% to the €2.51 level across two deals totalling 5,292 shares.
  • The only other negative performing equity today was Plaza Centres plc with a 2% drop back to the €0.98 level on volumes of 18,000 shares.
  • On the other hand, the share price of Bank of Valletta plc edged 0.9% higher to €2.32 across sixteen deals totalling 42,793 shares. BOV yesterday announced that it lodged an application with the Listing Authority for a subordinated debt issuance programme of a maximum of €150 million over the next twelve months. Further details will be issued in the Prospectus and Final Terms once approval is granted.
  • Similarly, the equity of FIMBank plc moved 2.2% higher to recapture the USD0.47 level on a single trade of 1,085 shares.
  • Meanwhile, International Hotel Investments plc maintained the €0.78 level across 37,887 shares.
  • Likewise, Medserv plc ended this morning’s session unchanged at the equity’s all-time high of €3.05 albeit on shallow volumes of 237 shares.
  • Also, Mapfre Middlesea plc continued to trade at its multi-year high of €2.25 but only 1,230 shares changed hands today.
