Daily Market Highlights (21.12.2018)

  • The MSE Equity Price Index trended higher for the fifth consecutive session with an increase of a further 0.35% to 4,483.496 points largely due to the gains in GO and Farsons. Trident, Plaza and PG also trended in positive territory whilst five equities, including BOV and HSBC, eased lower. Meanwhile, four equities closed the day unchanged. Trading activity dropped to just over €0.3 million. Over the week, the MSE Equity Price Index edged 1.3% higher largely to the 21.7% rally in the share price of RS2 Software plc as well as positive weekly movements in HSBC, GO and Farsons.   • After reaching a 4-month high yesterday, the RF MGS Index eased by 0.1% today to 1,094.086 points as the benchmark 10-year yield in Germany and the corresponding yield in Italy rebounded following the sharp correction registered in recent days.
  • GO plc rebounded by 4.2% to €3.96 albeit on shallow volumes of 5,403 shares.
  • Similarly, the share price of Simonds Farsons Cisk plc jumped 6.1% to reach a fresh 1-year high of €8.75 across shallow volumes of 2,424 shares.
  • In the property segment, two equities trended higher including Malta Properties Company plc with a 5.5% increase to the €0.58 level across nine deals totalling 35,700 shares. Similarly, Trident Estates plc edged 2% higher to €1.50 on 13,605 shares.
  • The only other positive performing equity was PG plc as it edged 1.5% higher to recapture the €1.33 level on low volumes of 8,000 shares.
  • On the other hand, Bank of Valletta plc failed to hold to this week’s earlier gains as it slipped by 1.5% back to the €1.31 level on shallow volumes of 5,381 shares.
  • Similarly, HSBC Bank Malta plc eased by 1.1% back to the €1.83 level across four deals totalling 22,812 shares.
  • Also in the banking segment, FIMBank plc retreated by 0.7% to USD0.74 on healthy volumes of 150,000 shares.
  • RS2 Software plc eased by 0.7% from its 8-month high of €1.41 to close minimally lower at the €1.40 level on a small deal of 3,600 shares.
  • Malita Investments plc drifted 1.1% lower to €0.88 across 7,000 shares.
  • Meanwhile, International Hotel Investments plc held on to the €0.60 level across 20,000 shares.
  • Malta International Airport plc also closed today’s session unchanged at the €5.80 level on shallow volumes of 2,410 shares.
  • In the property segment, MIDI plc held on to the €0.67 level on volumes of 11,040 shares and Plaza Centres plc retained the €1.00 level across low volumes of 9,600 shares.
