Daily Market Highlights (27.05.15)

  • The MSE Share Index edged 0.7% higher to 3,870.216 points – the highest level since January 2011 – as various equities reached new highs despite the shallow trading activity during this morning’s session. Download a copy of today’s Equity Market Summary.
  • On the bond market, the Rizzo Farrugia MGS Index inched minimally higher to 1,148.847 points as the benchmark 10-year German Bund yield remained under pressure at around the 0.55% level.
  • International Hotel Investments plc shares advanced by 3.2% to reach an almost 3-year high of €0.78 across four deals totalling 10,150 shares. Recently the IHI Group revealed its intentions to issue a new €170 million international secured bond through a special purpose vehicle with a ‘B’ rating. In the 2014 Annual Report IHI also informed shareholders that negotiations are taking place with the regulator on various options on how to reward the free float shareholders.
  • Likewise, GO plc edged 0.3% higher to reach a fresh 7-year high of €3.06 on shallow volumes of 7,965 shares.
  • RS2 Software plc moved 0.6% higher to a fresh record of €3.36 on low volumes of 7,120 shares.
  • Similarly, the equity of Mapfre Middlesea plc moved 4% higher to close at the €1.30 level for the first time since November 2009.
  • Bank of Valletta plc also performed positively with a 0.7% increase to €2.27 across six deals totalling 14,679 shares. Today, the Bank distributed the net interim dividend of €0.025 per share.
  • The only other positive performing equity was Tigné Mall plc with its share price inching marginally higher to recapture the €0.80 level across 25,334 shares.
  • On the other hand, HSBC Bank Malta plc trended lower with a 0.3% decline to the €1.835 level on a single trade of 1,483 shares.
  • Medserv plc shares turned ex-dividend and the share price dropped by 2.1% to the €2.155 level on a single trade of 2,327 shares.
  • Meanwhile, Malta International Airport plc maintained the €3.37 level across 5,920 shares.
  • Likewise, the equity of Grand Harbour Marina plc ended this morning’s session unchanged at the €1.89 level on a trade of 1,309 shares.
