Malta International Airport plc - Dec 09 Traffic results & 2010 Forecast

On 18 January 2010 Malta International Airport plc held a press conference revealing that passenger movements during December 2009 rose by 6.5% over the same period in 2008. The increase in passenger movements in December helped the airport operator trim this year’s decline to 6.1% when compared to the number of passengers in 2008. This represents an improvement from the 2009 forecast of a 6.8% decline in passenger movements provided by the company in July 2009.

MIA also announced that it is forecasting a 2.8% growth in passenger movements for 2010 (amounting to just over 3 million passengers). MIA’s CEO Mr Julian Jaegar stated that this forecast is based on the information currently available to the company on the new routes for 2010. These include the 3 new routes by Easyjet from Liverpool, Milan and Rome; Leeds Bradford and Bournemouth by Ryanair; a connection to East Midlands by BMI and summer flights to Oslo and Copenhagen from Norwegian.
