Malta International Airport plc - May Traffic Results

On 5 June, Malta International Airport plc published the May 2013 traffic results. The statistics reveal a 9.8% increase in passenger movements to 377,948 – a record number of passenger movements for the month of May. The increased passenger traffic in May 2013 was due to a 9.7% increase in seat capacity to 501,445 seats and the seat load factor edged 0.1 percentage points higher to 75.4%.

The airport operator stated that double-digit growth figures were registered by the French and Italian markets with gains of 23% and 14% in passenger movements respectively. The Spanish (+3.5%) and UK (+1.9%) markets also registered growth during the month under review. Meanwhile, the German market reported a decline of 8.2%.

Combining the statistics of the first five months of the year, MIA registered a 9% increase in passenger movements to 1,314,635 when compared to the same period of 2012 on the back of a 7.2% increase in seat capacity to 1.78 million seats as well as a 1.2 percentage point increase in the seat load factor to 73.8%.
