Malta International Airport plc - August Traffic Results

On 5 September, Malta International Airport plc published its August 2014 traffic results. The statistics reveal an 8.6% increase in passenger movements when compared to the same month last year to a record of 551,179 passengers. The increased passenger traffic was due to an unprecedented increase in the seat load factor to 86.5% coupled with a 6.6% growth in seat capacity and a 5.1% increase in aircraft movements.

During the month under review, the Italian market registered the largest growth of 16.5% on the back of the new routes added for the summer period. Traffic from Germany and France grew by 10.4% and 9.1% respectively followed by the UK with an 8.7% increase.

MIA’s CEO Markus Klaushofer stated that the Company is extremely pleased to announce another record-breaking month as the airport showed steady growth during the first half of 2014 and enjoyed an incredibly busy summer.

During the first eight months of 2014, MIA registered an 8% increase in passenger movements to more than 2.9 million when compared to the same period last year.

The Company recently revised upwards its passenger movement forecast for 2014 to +4.2% to an estimated throughput of 4.3 million passengers. The initial estimate for 2014 was for a growth rate of 2%.
