Malta International Airport plc - March Traffic Results

On 8 April, Malta International Airport plc published the March 2016 traffic results revealing a further 19% increase in passenger movements to 327,524 following a 15.3% increase in seat capacity, the 2.5 percentage point increase in the seat load factor to 82.9% as well as the impact of the Easter holidays which accounted for an additional 10,000 passengers during the month under review.

March also represents the end of the first quarter during which MIA registered a 15.5% increase in passenger movements to 800,724 compared to the same period last year. The growth in the first three months of the year were also due to an 11.5% increase in seat capacity to 1,022,256 seats following the introduction of new routes and increased frequencies by both existing as well as new airlines.

On 19 January, MIA had announced that during 2016 it is expecting a further 2.4% growth in passenger numbers to yet another record of at least 4.73 million passenger movements on the back of additional routes from both existing and new airlines as well as increased frequencies on existing destinations.

March also marks the end of the Company’s winter season (which runs from November to March) during which MIA registered 13% growth on the back of the growing demand for travelling as well as the increased seat capacity.
