Malta International Airport plc - May Traffic Results

On 3 June, Malta International Airport plc published the May 2016 traffic results revealing a further 7.8% increase in passenger movements to a record (for the month of May) of 476,575 which also represents the 50th consecutive month of growth. Seat capacity increased by 4.9% in May (reflecting the launch of new routes and increased frequencies to some popular destinations) and the seat load factor rose to 81.4%.

The announcement further explained that UK, Italy, Germany and France remained the Company’s top markets. Meanwhile, the growth in May’s passenger numbers was due to increased connectivity to several destinations in the UK, increased capacity on the Rome and Catania routes as well as the introduction of the Poznan route and increased flight frequency to Gdansk.

January – May Traffic Results

During the first five months of the year, MIA handled a record of 1.69 million passenger movements, an increase of 10.8% over the corresponding period last year.

On 19 January, MIA had announced that during 2016 it is expecting a further 2.4% growth in passenger numbers to yet another record of at least 4.73 million passenger movements.
