Malta International Airport plc - July Traffic Results

On 8 August, Malta International Airport plc published its July 2017 traffic results revealing a 15.5% increase in passenger movements compared to July 2016 to a new monthly record of 675,111 movements. This also represents a 12% increase over the previous monthly record registered in August 2016 of 603,904 passenger movements. The growth registered in July 2017 was due to the 13.6% increase in aircraft movements to 4,562 take-offs and landings which led to a 16.5% increase in seat capacity. On the other hand, the seat load factor during the month of July dropped by 1.3 percentage points to 86.7% which the company still remarked as being healthy.

The announcement further noted that the UK, Italy, Germany, France and Spain remained the five largest markets registering an aggregate growth of 53,000 passenger movements. This reflects the enhanced seat capacity and flight frequencies on certain routes including Glasgow, Bari, Frankfurt, Lyon and Madrid as well as new routes including Bordeaux and Valencia.
