On 8 November, Malta International Airport plc published the October 2017 traffic results revealing a 15.4% increase in passenger movements over October 2016 to 596,648 movements – a record for the month of October. Summer Season

October also marks the end of the summer season for MIA with passenger movements amounting to 4,249,321 passenger movements during this seven month period representing an increase of more than 600,000 passenger movements when compared to the same period in 2016 largely reflecting the 16.1% increase in seat capacity as well as an unchanged seat load factor of 85%.

In this respect, MIA’s CEO Alan Borg noted that the 2017 summer season was the busiest as the terminal hosted more than 4 million passengers in a span of seven months (reflecting the rate of growth in airport traffic) whilst also undertaking the Terminal Reconfiguration Project which is still ongoing. Mr Borg also noted that MIA is now looking ahead to the next summer with a number of interesting developments already in sight.
