Malta International Airport plc - August Traffic Results

On 7 September 2018, Malta International Airport plc announced its August traffic results revealing a 9.5% increase in passenger movements to a record of 759,547 passengers. The growth reflects a 9.7% increase in aircraft movements and a 10.5% growth in seat capacity. On the other hand, the seat load factor eased by 0.7 percentage points to 87.4%.

The airport operator also explained that the UK, Italy, Germany, France and Spain remain its top five markets. Furthermore, the announcement noted that Malta has been gaining ground with British leisure travellers as it featured among the top 10 fastest-growing destinations for the summer season. Meanwhile, the growth in Spain can be partly attributed to the introduction of flights to Bilbao, Malaga and Seville. Similarly, the French route network was also expanded with the launch of three scheduled services to Paris (Beauvais), Nice and Lourdes.

January – August 2018

During the first eight months of 2018, a total of 4,585,576 passenger movements were registered representing an increase of 14.4% over the previous corresponding period.
