Malta International Airport plc - May Traffic Results

On 6 June, Malta International Airport plc published its traffic results for the month of May 2018. Passenger numbers grew by 17.3% compared to the same month last year to reach a record figure of 643,089 passengers. MIA also noted that this is the first time that the number of passengers exceeded the 600,000 mark during the month of May.

The growth was driven by a 16.6% increase in aircraft movements and a 17% increase in seat capacity as well as a 0.1 percentage point increase in the seat load factor to 80.6%.

The top contributors to this growth were the UK, Italy, Germany, France and Spain.

January – May 2018

During the five months ended 31 May 2018, more than 2.4 million passenger movements were registered representing a 16.8% increase over the previous corresponding period. In January, MIA announced that it is expecting a further growth in passenger numbers of between 7% and 9% to around 6.5 million for the whole of 2018.
