Malta International Airport plc - September Traffic Results

On 5 October 2018, Malta International Airport plc announced its September traffic results revealing a 12.8% increase in passenger movements to a record of 706,814 passengers – the third consecutive month in which passenger movements exceeded the 700,000 level. The growth reflects a 12.5% increase in aircraft movements and a 14.1% increase in seat capacity. On the other hand, the seat load factor eased by 1 percentage point to 86.7%.

The airport operator also explained that the UK, Italy, Germany, France and Spain remain its top five markets as they all registered double-digit growth with the exception of Germany which registered a 7.2% drop reflecting a reduced schedule by TUI cruises.

2018 Peak Holiday Season

The announcement also noted that during July, August and September (the three peak months for MIA), the airport operator registered 2.2 million passenger movements – a record for this period and representing an 11.4% increase over the same period in the previous year.

January – September 2018

During the first nine months of 2018, a total of 5,292,390 passenger movements were registered representing an increase of 14.2% over the previous corresponding period compared to the company forecasts for passenger movements to grow by 13% to reach yet another record of 6.77 million passenger movements.
