GO plc - Interconnection agreement

Maltacom has announced that it has signed the interconnection agreement with Melita Cable plc.

Maltacom plc initially refused to sign the interconnection agreement with Melita Cable plc because of certain unforthcoming requests. This led the Malta Communications Authority to impose an administrative fine of Lm10,000 and a daily penalty of Lm200 on Maltacom plc. Maltacom’s subsidiary Go Mobile had signed an interconnection agreement with Melita Cable plc on 29 September 2006.

The interconnection agreement allows separate networks to link up to transmit calls from one network to the other. This implies that Melita Cable plc may now enter the fixed line telephony market.
