Malta International Airport plc - March traffic results

Malta International Airport plc published the March 2008 traffic results on 4 April. The statistics show a 24.6% rise in passenger departures during March 2008 to 111,694 (March 2007: 89,659).

MIA noted that the strong increase in March was partly attributable to additional traffic as a result of the General Elections and Easter vacations. Passenger traffic from the UK market remained stable with an increase of 2.3%. However, there were significant increases of 42.8% and 34% in the German and Italian markets respectively. The Spanish market continued to grow at a steady pace, from a mere 278 passenger movements in March 2007 to 9,657 in March 2008.

Following the strong growth also experienced in previous months, passenger departures grew by 22.3% or 48,924 during the first quarter of the year.  Aircraft arrivals also continued to rise and increased by 14.2% during March 2008 (+14.1% during the first quarter of the year).
