On 8 May Malta International Airport plc published the April 2009 traffic results. The statistics show a 2% increase in passenger departures during the month of April to 124,809 passengers (April 2008: 122,409). During the first four months of 2009, passenger departures declined by 9.23%, representing a decrease of 36,112 passengers.
MIA reported that passenger traffic for the two main markets, UK and Germany, experienced declines of 9.6% and 1.2% respectively while Italy increased by 10.6%. Furthermore, passenger movements from the French market increased by 15.1% whilst Cyprus registered a significant rise of 521.7%.
