Malta International Airport plc - February 2010 Traffic Results

On 8 January 2010 Malta International Airport plc published the February 2010 traffic results. The statistics show a 6.5% rise in passenger departures during the month of February to 72,439 passengers (February 2009: 68,029). The airport operator also issued a Company Announcement revealing that total passenger movements increased by 6.3% during February 2010 over the comparative month in 2009. Passenger traffic from UK, Italy and Spain increased by 3.2%, 16.1% and 75.6% respectively whilst Germany registered a decline of 10.1%. Following the 7% increase in January, passenger movements have increased by an average of 6.7% in the first two months of 2010. At the start of the year MIA announced that it is forecasting a 2.8% growth in passenger movements during 2010 (amounting to just over 3 million passengers). Last week it was announced that the Government of Malta reached an agreement with Ryanair to base one aircraft in Malta servicing 6 additional destinations namely Valencia, Bologna, Seville, Billund (Denmark), Krakow (Poland) and Marseille.
