Malta International Airport plc - March 2010 Traffic Statistics

On 7 April 2010 Malta International Airport plc published the March 2010 traffic results. The statistics show a 10.8% rise in passenger departures during the month of March to 101,147 passengers (March 2009: 91,292). The airport operator revealed that total passenger movements increased by 12.3% during March 2010 over the comparative period in 2009. Passenger traffic from UK, Italy, Germany and Spain increased by 5.9%, 30.5%, 9% and 116.2% respectively. MIA also explained that the growth registered during March translates into an average increase of 8.9% in passenger departures for the first three months of 2010. In its 2009 full-year results announcement published on 11 March, MIA upgraded its 2010 passenger growth forecast to +6% following the initial 2.8% growth estimated in January. The increased forecast reflects the recent agreement between the Government of Malta and Ryanair for the low-cost carrier to base an aircraft in Malta as from May 2010 and service an additional 6 routes.
