Malta International Airport plc - MIA announces Photo Voltaic initiative

On 12 August, Malta International Airport plc announced that it is currently installing a Photo Voltaic farm consisting of 435 polycrystalline panels to reduce electricity consumption – in line with the current environmental initiatives taking place in Malta. MIA explained that this project, which is scheduled to be operational by November, should reduce approximately 165,000 units of electrical power per year (i.e. a reduction of about €30,000 of MIA’s electricity costs per year) using solar energy.  ElectrofixEnergy Ltd were awarded the contract for the supply, installation and commissioning of the complete system.

This project, which costs €200,000, is being partly financed by the European Regional Development Fund through Malta Enterprise with a contribution of 50%.
