Malta International Airport plc - November Traffic Results

On 7 December 2010, MIA published the November 2010 traffic results.  The statistics reveal an increase of 12.5% in passenger movements during November – the highest number ever reached in this particular month. Seat capacity also rose by 11.8% over the same month in 2009. During November MIA reached its 3 millionth passenger of the year.

MIA explained that aircraft movements grew by 11.7% over the same period last year whilst the average seat load factor improved to 68.7% from 68.2% in November 2009.

The airport operator explained that the Spanish, Italian and French markets once again grew significantly during November by 52.9%, 30.9% and 23% respectively. Germany also performed positively with a modest 2.7% increase whilst the UK was the only market to register a 1% decline.

During the first 11 months of the year, passenger numbers climbed 13% and the airport operator reiterated that the strong increase of 10.5% in seat capacity was the main driver for these successful results coupled with an increased seat load factor. The increase of 13% to date far exceeds the airport operator’s passenger growth forecast for 2010 of +8%.
