Malta International Airport plc - October Traffic Results

On 4 November 2010, Malta International Airport plc published the October 2010 traffic results. The statistics reveal an increase of 18.4% in passenger movements during October. MIA noted that passenger movements amounted to 331,910 in October. It was the highest ever number registered in October and the first time that over 300,000 passenger movements were registered in this month.

MIA also said that the French, Spanish and Italian markets again grew significantly in October by 54.2%, 41.1% and 24.8% respectively. Germany and the UK also performed positively with increases of 10.5% and 8.5% respectively.

During the first 10 months of the year, passenger numbers climbed 13% and the airport operator reiterated that the strong increase of 10.4% in seat capacity was the main driver for these successful results coupled with an increased seat load factor. The increase of 13% year-to-date far exceeds the airport operator’s passenger growth forecast for 2010 of +8%.
