Malta International Airport plc - Interim Directors’ Statement

On 24 May 2011 Malta International Airport plc issued its Interim Directors’ Statement covering the period for 1 January 2011 to date. During the period under review, MIA stated that the financial position of the Company remained sound and the performance has been in line with projected results. The airport operator explained that in the first quarter of the year, passenger movements rose by 16.4% when compared to the previous year. The Directors also stated that strong growth in passenger movements were registered in April 2011 (+25.3%) –  however this was largely due to the volcanic ash cloud which drastically reduced air traffic throughout Europe for about a week last year.  Notwithstanding the significant growth in traffic in the first four months of the year, MIA stated that the total passenger movements for 2011 is expected to be more or less in line with that of 2010. The Group confirmed that it will issue a revised forecast for the 2011 total passenger numbers around mid-July 2011.

MIA explained that during the first four months of the year, construction works at the new Sky Parks Business Centre continued to progress and it is expected that the first tenants should be moving to the new building by the end of 2011.

The Directors concluded by stating that subject to any unforeseen circumstances, the Company’s financial results for the year are expected to be within the projections made at the beginning of the year.
