On 4 February 2011, MIA published the January 2011 traffic results. The statistics reveal an increase of 14.9% in passenger movements to 169,673 during January – the highest number ever reached in this particular month. This was mainly due to the 10.7% increase in seat capacity over the same month in 2010.
Moreover, MIA explained that aircraft movements grew by 11.5% over the same period last year whilst the average seat load factor improved to 60% from 57.9% in January 2010.
The airport operator explained that the French, Spanish and Italian markets once again grew significantly during January by 51.1%, 41.9% and 32.4% respectively. UK and Germany also grew but by a more modest 4.8% and 4% respectively.
Last year, MIA registered a 12.8% increase in passenger movements to a new record of 3.29 million passenger movements and expects to maintain this record level during 2011.
