On 12 July, Malta International Airport plc published the June 2017 traffic results revealing yet another record month with an increase of 17.5% to 578,827 passenger movements over the same month in 2016. MIA explained that the growth was partly due to the recently launched summer schedule – the busiest ever – which features an average of 130 flights per day. Aircraft movements in June increased by 11.7% to a total of 4,071 movements. In addition, seat capacity increased by 15.5% while the seat load factor improved by 1.1 percentage points.
The airport’s top five markets in June were the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, France, and Spain. These markets all registered varying degrees of growth, with the Spanish market experiencing the most marked increase, at 38.2%.
During the first six months of 2017, passenger movements amounted to 2,639,712, representing an increase of 20.9% over the first half of last year.
