Malta International Airport plc - May Traffic Results

On 8 June, Malta International Airport plc published the May 2017 traffic results revealing a 14.4% year-on-year increase in passenger movements to a record (for the month of May) of 548,354 passengers. MIA explained that the growth experienced last month translates into 68,000 additional travellers which is equivalent to an extra 12 commercial aircrafts carrying a full load of 180 passengers every day.

During May, seat capacity increased by 15.1% whilst aircraft movements rose by 12.5%. On the other hand, the seat load factor, which measures airlines’ efficiency in filling seats, decreased marginally by 0.9 percentage points and stood at 80.5%.

MIA’s top five markets remained unchanged during the past months, with the United Kingdom topping the list followed by Italy, Germany, France, and Belgium. All of these markets registered varying levels of growth, starting from a 10.0% increase on German destinations and reaching 132% for traffic from Brussels.

MIA stated that during the recently launched summer schedule there are an average of 130 flights per day.
