Malta International Airport plc - September Traffic Results

On 9 October, Malta International Airport plc published the September 2017 traffic results revealing a 16.7% increase in passenger movements compared to September 2016 to 626,488 movements – a record for the month of September and the third consecutive month in which passenger movements surpassed the 600,000 mark. The growth registered in September 2017 was due to the 17.0% increase in seat capacity whilst the seat load factor remained constant at 86.7%.

The announcement further noted that passenger movements from Spain, Germany, France and Italy increased by 43.8%, 25.8%, 17.6% and 10.5% respectively. The UK market, which remains the largest market for MIA, registered a 4.7% increase in passenger movements during September 2017 mainly due to an increase in seat capacity as a result of the Cruise & Fly operation.

January – September 2017

During the nine months ended 30 September 2017, a total of 4.63 million passenger movements were registered representing a 19% increase over the previous corresponding period. In July, the airport operator updated its 2017 passenger growth forecast to 5.8 million passenger movements (representing a growth of between 14% and 16%).
