On 8 March 2018, Malta International Airport plc published the February 2018 traffic results revealing an 18% increase in passenger movements to a record (for the month of February) of 349,430 movements. The strong growth came on the back of the 14% increase in aircraft movements as well as the 15.5% increase in seat capacity. Moreover, the seat load factor improved by 1.6 percentage points to 78.5%.
MIA’s top markets in February 2018 were the United Kingdom (+16%), Italy (+14%), Germany (+7%), Belgium (-2%) and France (+19%). In aggregate, these five markets accounted for 71% of total passenger movements.
Meanwhile, the company also made reference to the results issued by the Airports Council International which placed MIA in second place among European counterparts in terms of service quality and customer satisfaction. Moreover, MIA also stated that it will unveil a new flight schedule with more than 100 destinations towards the end of March.
