Malta International Airport plc - March Traffic Results

On 6 April, Malta International Airport plc published its traffic results for the 2017/18 winter season which runs from November 2017 to March 2018.

March Traffic Results

During March 2018, MIA registered a 22.5% increase over the corresponding month last year to 470,912 passengers reflecting the Easter holidays as well as the launch of new routes and increased frequencies.

2017/18 Winter Season

During the winter season, MIA hosted over 1.8 million  passengers representing a 17% increase over the previous comparable period. Furthermore, MIA registered an 18.1% increase in seat capacity on the back of an enhanced winter flight schedule offering five new routes and increased frequencies on existing ones. On the other hand, the seat load factor for the winter season under review dropped marginally to 77.2%.

MIA also noted that although the summer season remains the high season for passenger traffic, the airport has been experiencing increasingly busy winters mainly resulting from collaborative efforts to promote Malta as a year round destination.

2018 Summer Season

MIA has inaugurated 12 new routes operated by different airlines for the season and will be launching more routes in April. As such, busier days are expected at Malta’s only terminal. However, following the installation of eight additional check-in desks and a new Central security Area (as part of the Terminal Reconfiguration Project), the airport is in a better position to handle the expected growth in traffic.
