On 7 May 2019, Malta International Airport plc published its traffic results for the month of April 2019 revealing a 10.5% increase in passengers to 653,100 movements. MIA reported that the Easter holidays and the start of the summer schedule contributed to April’s strong performance. In fact, the new summer schedule contributed to an increase of 6.3% in seat capacity. Despite the strong increase in passenger movements, the seat load factor for the month of April improved by 3.2 percentage points to 83.3%.
MIA’s top five markets remained unchanged from the previous month. In addition, all of these markets registered strong growth with MIA’s largest market – the UK – achieving an increase of 7.4%, followed by Italy (+6.8%), Germany (+14.4%), France (+14.5%) and Spain (+13.5%).
Since the start of 2019, MIA welcomed a total of 1.86 million passengers, representing an increase of 5.3% over the corresponding period last year.
