Malta International Airport plc - August Traffic Results

On 6 September 2019, Malta International Airport plc announced its August traffic results revealing an 8.4% increase to a record 823,653 passenger movements compared to the same month last year as a result of a 5.8% increase in aircraft movements, 7.6% growth in seat capacity and a marginal improvement in the seat load factor to 88% from 87.4% in August 2018.

MIA also noted that its top five markets all registered growth during the month of August 2019 with Germany surging by 24.7% followed by France with a 13.7% increase and Spain up 9.3%. Passenger numbers from the UK increased by 3.1% whilst passenger movements from Italy only improved by 0.4%. The announcement noted that the growth across these five main markets reflects the introduction of several new routes and improved flight frequencies on a number of existing routes.

January – August 2019

During the eight-month period ending August 2019, MIA welcomed over 4.87 million passengers, representing a 6.3% increase over the same period last year.

The airport operator’s target for 2019 is 7.2 million passenger movements representing a 5.8% increase from the corresponding figure in 2018.
