Malta International Airport plc - September Traffic Results

On 8 October 2020, Malta International Airport plc announced its September traffic results revealing an 83.1% drop in passenger movements to nearly 0.13 million. Aircraft movements and seat capacity decreased by 57.9% and 59.9% respectively whilst the seat load factor slipped to just 36.3%. The top markets were Germany (-71.4%), Italy (-83.1%), the UK (-89.2%), France (-73.1%) and Austria (-55.4%).

July – September 2020

During Q3 2020, passenger movements declined by 77.6% when compared to the same period in 2019. Peak recovery levels were observed in August, particularly in the first two weeks of the month, with passenger numbers increasing by 64.9% over July 2020. Nonetheless, the introduction of Malta’s amber list together with other travel restrictions led to a downward trend in the second half of August which persisted in September. In fact, traffic in September was approximately half of that registered in August.
