Malta International Airport plc - March Traffic Results

On 8 April 2021, Malta International Airport plc published the March 2021 traffic results showing a 93% drop in passenger traffic to 32,033 movements. MIA added that despite the significant hurdles that are still being faced by the aviation industry, the rapid vaccination roll-out coupled with the Government’s plan to restart tourism on 1 June are giving MIA confidence for the second half of the year.

Meanwhile, MIA’s CEO Mr Alan Borg noted how the use of technology could contribute to a strong but safe restart of tourism. In this respect, a ‘Malta app’ would allow passengers to upload all necessary documents – namely the passenger locator form, health declaration form, and COVID-19 test result or vaccine certificate – for verification by the authorities prior to entry in Malta. This would give incoming passengers a heightened sense of safety and security and allow for a more seamless travel experience, whilst contributing to the restoration of consumer confidence.
