On 7 October 2024, Malta International Airport plc announced that it welcomed 896,471 passengers during September 2024, an increase of 10.4% compared to the corresponding month last year. Passenger movements exceeded their relative 2023 figures for the ninth consecutive month.

The seat load factor stood at an all-time high for September at 90.2%, which is one percentage point higher than in September 2023, despite the fact that seat capacity was 9.1% higher than the same period last year.

MIA stated that Italy remained the most popular destination, followed by the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Poland. Four out of the five top performing markets for September outperformed their respective 2023 levels, with France being the only market to fall, albeit just 2.9% short of reaching last year’s levels.

The passenger movements during the nine-month period ended September 2024 amounted to 6.90 million, representing an increase of 15.5% above the passenger traffic recorded in the same period last year.

MIA also published the 2024/25 Winter Schedule which features 109 direct connections to destinations across Europe and the Middle East, including a new airline for MIA, the Irish flag carrier Aer Lingus.

The company also noted that MIA has become the second European airport and the fifth airport worldwide to be awarded Level 4 of Airports Council International’s Customer Experience Accreditation Programme. The programme is tailored to evaluate how airports manage the overall guest experience, focusing on enhancing customer understanding, analysing feedback, fostering a customer-centric culture, and driving service innovation, along with other key pillars of experience management.
