Malta International Airport plc - December Traffic Results & 2026 Forecasts

On 14 January 2026, Malta International Airport plc published the December 2025 traffic results and provided key performance targets for 2026.

December 2025 Traffic Results

In December, MIA welcomed a monthly record of 709,352 passengers, which is 19.9% higher than the movements handled in the same month in 2024. Consequently, all monthly passenger movements throughout 2025 exceeded the corresponding 2024 levels. The December growth rate of 19.9% was also the highest monthly growth rate registered in 2025.

Full-Year 2025 Traffic Results

Passenger movements at MIA in 2025 reached a record of 10.06 million, which is 12.3% higher than the previous record of 8.96 million passenger movements registered 2024. The seat load factor for the year stood at 85.4%, slightly lower than the 2024 figure of 86.0%, reflecting the 13% increase in seat capacity over the previous year.

In terms of popular destinations, the United Kingdom was the largest market in 2025, accounting for 20% of total traffic, followed by Italy, Poland, Germany and France. Poland registered the highest growth rate of 48.9%. In contrast, Italy and France registered a minimal decline compared to the previous year.

Key Performance Targets for 2026

The airport operator also announced its key targets for this year. For 2026, MIA expects:

  • Passenger movements of 10.5 million compared to the 2025 figure of 10.06 million.
  • Revenue of €162 million compared to the latest 2025 forecast of €151 million.
  • EBITDA of €98 million compared to the latest 2025 forecast of €93 million.
  • Net profit of €51 million compared to the latest 2025 forecast of €49 million.
  • Capital investments of €90 million.
