Following last week's article detailing the performance of the S&P 500 index in 2025, it is worth devoting time to review the developments across the European equity markers in my last article of the year.

The MSE Equity Price Index slipped 0.27% to 4,388.9 points as the declines in six equities outweighed the gains in HSBC, APS, PG and BMIT. Two other equities closed unchanged, while total trading value amounted to €0.26 million. Download today’s Equity Market Summary.

Bank of Valletta plc was the most actively traded equity, accounting for more than half of today’s trading value, as it edged 0.4% lower to €2.39 across ten deals totalling 56,415 shares.

MIDI plc fell by 4.8% to €0.20 across four deals totalling 21,300 shares.

MaltaPost plc also dropped 6.5% to €0.462 across two deals totalling 4,724 shares.

Simonds Farsons Cisk plc declined by 0.8% to €6.55 on a single trade of 250 shares. Yesterday, Farsons published its interim results for the six-month period ended 31 July 2026. Revenue rose by 6.6% to €58.4 million and operating profit increased by 12% to €10.6 million, while pre-tax profit from continuing operations climbed by 13.7% to €10.3 million. However, net profit declined by 20% to €6.79 million from the €8.48 million profit from continuing operations last year, as the tax expense increased to €3.52 million from €0.59 million, since the tax credits which offset the Group’s tax charge in previous years have now been fully accounted for. Farsons shareholders as at the close of trading on Monday 5 October 2026 will be entitled to a net interim dividend of €0.07 per share, 7.7% higher than last year, payable on Wednesday 21 October 2026.

Malta Properties Company plc also lost 4.4% to €0.43 on a single trade of 400 shares.

FIMBank plc shed 8.3% to USD0.31 on a single trade of 1,318 shares.

In contrast, HSBC Bank Malta plc rose by 0.7% to €1.52 across eight deals totalling 34,469 shares. Today, HSBC announced that its Board of Directors is scheduled to meet on Tuesday 27 October 2026 to consider the approval of the third quarter management accounts for the period ending 30 September 2026 and to consider the declaration of an interim dividend.

APS Bank plc gained 1.7% to €0.595 across three deals totalling 9,471 shares.

PG plc also moved 0.6% higher to €1.65 across two deals totalling 2,075 shares.

BMIT Technologies plc surged by 7.2% to €0.268 on a single trade of 10,000 shares.

Malta International Airport plc closed unchanged at €6.55 after recovering from an intraday low of €6.50 (-0.8%) across the 7,372 shares.

International Hotel Investments plc also closed unchanged at €0.62 across two deals totalling 1,801 shares.

The RF MGS Index fell by 0.58% to 868.8 points, with the CBM bid prices reflecting the rise in eurozone sovereign bond yields in early trading as investors priced in further rate hikes by the European Central Bank. Money markets are now pricing a further 25-basis-point increase by the end of 2026.

Today, the Treasury Department established the prices for the two new Malta Government Stocks for an aggregate nominal amount of €300 million subject to an over-allotment option of up to a further €200 million as follows:

(i) 4.30% MGS 2037 (II) at 100.00% for every €100 nominal giving a yield-to-maturity of 4.2997% per annum; and

(ii) 4.50% MGS 2041 (III) at 100.00% for every €100 nominal giving a yield-to-maturity of 4.4995% per annum.

Subscriptions for the General Public open on Monday 5 October 2026 and close on Wednesday 7 October 2026 at 14:30 hrs or earlier at the discretion of the Accountant General.
