HSBC Malta climbs to one-year high of €1.55
Following last week's article detailing the performance of the S&P 500 index in 2025, it is worth devoting time to review the developments across the European equity markers in my last article of the year.
The MSE Equity Price Index advanced by 0.59% to 4,414.9 points, its highest close since March 2020. The gains in six equities outweighed the decline in IHI, while three other equities closed unchanged. Total trading value dropped below the €100,000 level for the first time in three weeks. Download today’s Equity Market Summary.
HSBC Bank Malta plc rose by 2.0% to €1.55, its highest close since August 2025, across three deals totalling 2,977 shares.
APS Bank plc climbed 1.7% to €0.605 across eight deals totalling 28,761 shares. Today, APS announced that it will hold a Sustainability Market Briefing on Thursday 15 October 2026.
GO plc moved 2.4% higher to €2.56 across two deals totalling 2,320 shares.
AX Real Estate plc closed 1.9% higher at €0.54, although most of the 10,050 shares that traded exchanged hands at the previous closing price of €0.53.
FIMBank plc surged by 5.8% to USD0.328 across two deals totalling 4,681 shares.
MaltaPost plc rebounded by 6.9% to €0.494 on a single trade of 1,000 shares.
International Hotel Investments plc was today’s only negative performer as it slipped 0.8% to €0.615 on a single trade of 100 shares.
Bank of Valletta plc was the most actively traded equity, accounting for half of today’s trading value, as it traded flat at the €2.39 level across four deals totalling 18,257 shares.
Malta International Airport plc held the €6.55 level on a single trade of 1,302 shares, while Grand Harbour Marina plc stayed at €0.925 on a single trade of 50 shares.
The RF MGS Index rebounded by 0.34% to 871.8 points as the CBM bid prices reflected the decline in German government bond yields in early trading, with the German 10-year yield easing below 3.45% from over 3.60% at the start of this week as investors sought safe-haven assets amid mounting concerns over France’s public finances. This week, France’s minority government unveiled its plan to cut the budget deficit to 5% of GDP next year. Today, the French 10-year yield briefly climbed above 5%, its highest level since July 2002. Furthermore, data released today showed that eurozone inflation accelerated to 3.8% in September, above the 3.6% expected, keeping expectations of a further rate hike by the European Central Bank intact.
