Following last week's article detailing the performance of the S&P 500 index in 2025, it is worth devoting time to review the developments across the European equity markers in my last article of the year.

The MSE Equity Price Index remained relatively unchanged at 4,135.7 points as the gains in M&Z, Santumas, BOV and HSBC were offset by the declines in IHI, GHM, Trident, MIA and AX Real Estate. Meanwhile, two equities closed unchanged as today’s total trading activity amounted to €0.13 million. Download today’s Equity Market Summary.

Bank of Valletta plc rose by 1.4% to the €2.13 level across seven trades totalling 34,048 shares. The Bank explained that last week it had purchased a total of 9,321 shares at an average weighted purchase price of €2.13 for a total amount of €19,854.

Also in the banking sector, HSBC Bank Malta plc advanced by 0.7% to the €1.43 level across four deals amounting to 7,045 shares.

M&Z plc advanced by 2.7% to the €0.565 level on a single trade of 2,000 shares.

Santumas Shareholdings plc gained 1.7% to the €1.22 level across two deals amounting to 10,072 shares.

On the other hand, International Hotel Investments plc declined by 4.7% to the €0.61 level across four trades totalling 9,750 shares.

Grand Harbour Marina plc shed 1.1% to the €0.94 level over trivial volumes.

Trident Estates plc fell by 0.9% to the €1.14 level on one trade of 870 shares.

Malta International Airport plc declined by 0.8% to the €6.15 level on one deal amounting to 635 shares.

AX Real Estate plc shed 0.4% to the €0.488 level as 1,500 shares changed hands.

Meanwhile, APS Bank plc held the €0.58 level on muted activity.

PG plc closed unchanged at the €1.60 level across three deals amounting to 16,963 shares.

The RF MGS Index fell by 0.03% to 898.767 points. Data released today showed that producer prices in the euro area rose by 0.2% month-on-month in May in line with expectations, easing from an upwardly revised 0.7% in April mainly driven by declining energy prices. On an annual basis, producer prices in May advanced by 5.9% which was higher than the 5.7% which was anticipated and the strongest reading since March 2023. Meanwhile, German factory orders rebounded 1.9% month-on-month in May exceeding the 1.2% which was anticipated and reversing a downwardly revised 3.2% drop in April.
