PG climbs on healthy volume
Following last week's article detailing the performance of the S&P 500 index in 2025, it is worth devoting time to review the developments across the European equity markers in my last article of the year.
The MSE Equity Price Index eased by 0.09% to 4,132.7 points as the decline in BOV outweighed the increase in PG. A further five equities closed unchanged. Total trading value more than doubled from the previous session to just over €412,000, with BOV and PG together representing 92% of the day’s activity. Download today’s Equity Market Summary.
PG plc climbed by 1.3% to €1.58 across 118,000 shares, with the €187,700 that changed hands amounting to more than 18 times PG’s 90-day average daily trading value. The Board of PG is scheduled to meet on 31 August to consider the approval of the financial statements for the financial year ended 30 April 2026.
In contrast, Bank of Valletta plc eased by 0.5% to €2.15 across 89,525 shares.
APS Bank plc traded flat at the €0.59 level across 15,703 shares. Also in the banking sector, HSBC Bank Malta plc held the €1.46 level on a single trade of 6,830 shares.
Malta International Airport plc stayed at the €6.35 level, although only 143 shares changed hands.
MIDI plc closed unchanged at €0.24 after opening at a low of €0.22 (-8.3%), with 31,500 shares changing hands.
AX Real Estate plc also closed unchanged, at €0.49, most of the 10,100 shares that traded exchanged hands at €0.476 (-2.9%).
The Board of Directors of Main Street Complex plc is scheduled to meet today to approve the company’s interim financial statements for the six months ended 30 June 2026.
The RF MGS Index advanced by 0.09% to 896.9 points, reflecting the drop in US Treasury yields that followed Friday’s weaker-than-expected US employment report. The Brent oil price rose by 3.0% to around USD86 per barrel after Iran-backed Houthi militants claimed an attack on Saudi Arabia’s Jazan refinery and a tanker was attacked in the Strait of Hormuz over the weekend, with Iran and Oman yet to finalise an agreement to reopen the waterway. In fact, the US 10-year Treasury yield rebounded to around 4.7% from around 4.6% on Friday, its highest level this month, as higher energy prices revived concerns over inflation.
