Following last week's article detailing the performance of the S&P 500 index in 2025, it is worth devoting time to review the developments across the European equity markers in my last article of the year.

The MSE Equity Price Index advanced by 0.42% to 4,151.3 points as the gains in MIA, BOV, FIMBank, APS, and Lombard outweighed the declines in four other equities. A further three equities closed unchanged. Total trading value was muted at the €131,000 level. Download today’s Equity Market Summary.

Malta International Airport plc climbed by 1.6% to €6.50, its highest close since May 2021, and was the most active equity, representing 39% of total trading value. Shareholders as at close of trading on Tuesday 18 August 2026 will receive a net interim dividend of €0.06 per share by no later than Friday 11 September 2026.

Bank of Valletta plc advanced by 1.4% to €2.17 across 11,847 shares.

APS Bank plc gained 1.7% to €0.59 across 6,875 shares. APS shareholders as at close of trading on Tuesday 18 August 2026 will be entitled to a net interim dividend of €0.0082 per share in the form of scrip, subject to regulatory approval, with the attribution price to be announced on 20 August 2026 and payment following on 30 September 2026.

FIMBank plc advanced by 2.2% to USD0.189 across 70,585 shares, while Lombard Bank Malta plc edged 0.7% higher to €0.685 on a single trade of 454 shares.

Also in the banking sector, HSBC Bank Malta plc traded flat at the €1.45 level on a single trade of 11,829 shares. Tomorrow is the last session in which shareholders will be eligible for HSBC’s interim quarterly net dividend of €0.028 per share, which will be paid on 23 September 2026.

BMIT Technologies plc held the €0.25 level on a single trade of 14,300 shares.

Trident Estates plc also stayed at the €1.10 level, across 500 shares.

The Convenience Shop (Holding) plc plunged by 20.5% to €0.70, its lowest close since the shares were listed in May 2023, as 17,788 shares changed hands.

MaltaPost plc eased by 2.0% to €0.48, although most of the 5,300 shares that traded exchanged hands at €0.456 (-6.9%).

International Hotel Investments plc slipped by 1.7% to €0.58 across 1,844 shares.

Malta Properties Company plc declined by 4.8% to €0.40, although most of the 1,200 shares that traded exchanged hands at €0.376 (-10%).

The RF MGS Index was little changed as it eased by 0.02% to 894.9 points. Euro area sovereign bond markets lacked a catalyst, with the Eurostat release showed euro area industrial production unchanged in June. Later in the day, the US 10-year Treasury yield eased marginally after producer price inflation slowed to 4.7% in July from 5.5%, with prices unchanged over the month against expectations of a 0.2% increase.
