Following last week's article detailing the performance of the S&P 500 index in 2025, it is worth devoting time to review the developments across the European equity markers in my last article of the year.

The MSE Equity Price Index remained practically unchanged at 4,152.5 points as the gains in HSBC, FIMBank, Farsons and Grand Harbour Marina offset the declines in six other equities. A further six equities closed unchanged. Nonetheless, total trading value was subdued at less than €100,000. Download today’s Equity Market Summary.

GO plc eased by 1.6% to €2.50 and was the most active equity, representing 37% of total trading value.

The RF MGS Index was little changed as it advanced by 0.04% to 895.2 points. Eurostat confirmed that the euro area economy grew by 0.4% in the second quarter of 2026, in line with the preliminary estimate published on 30 July, and reported that employment rose by 0.1% over the same period. Meanwhile, data from the US pointed to emerging weaknesses within the economy. US retail sales in July registered the first month-on-month decline in since October 2025, in contrast to expectations of growth. Furthermore, the consumer sentiment measured by the University of Michigan fell below market expectations in early August following two months of improvement.
