Trident Park occupancy drives revenue and profits higher
Following last week's article detailing the performance of the S&P 500 index in 2025, it is worth devoting time to review the developments across the European equity markers in my last article of the year.
The MSE Equity Price Index edged 0.10% lower to 4,352.3 points as the declines in BOV, HSBC, Mapfre Middlesea and AX Real Estate outweighed the gains in APS, BMIT and MIA, while three closed unchanged. Total trading value remained broadly unchanged at €0.21 million. Download today’s Equity Market Summary.
Today, Trident Estates plc published its interim results for the six-month period ended 31 July. Revenue rose by 6.1% to €2.99 million reflecting the higher occupancy levels at Trident Park. In this respect, the company explained that occupancy increased to 92% compared to 86% last year. Operating profit rose by 7.7% to €1.89 million from €1.75 million in the comparable period last year and the net profit for the period amounted to €0.86 million. Total equity remained virtually unchanged at €71.1 million, which translates into a net asset value per share of €1.693.
Bank of Valletta plc was the most actively traded equity, accounting for 57% of the total value traded across local equities, as it slipped 0.8% to €2.36 across nine deals totalling 51,123 shares.
HSBC Bank Malta plc declined by 0.7% to €1.49 across four deals totalling 22,986 shares.
Mapfre Middlesea plc shed 1.5% to €1.34 on two deals of 3,800 shares.
AX Real Estate plc eased by 0.9% to €0.53 on a single trade of 4,800 shares.
In contrast, APS Bank plc climbed by 2.6% to €0.585 on a single trade of 74,253 shares.
BMIT Technologies plc rose 4.0% to €0.26 on a single deal of 2,000 shares.
Malta International Airport plc added 0.8% to €6.65 on one deal of 10 shares.
GO plc held the €2.52 level on a single deal of 1,500 shares.
International Hotel Investments plc (€0.60) and PG plc (€1.64) both closed unchanged on muted activity.
The RF MGS Index advanced by 0.25% to 878.4 points as yields eased across the curve, reflecting expectations of lower fuel prices and the Federal Reserve’s commitment to tame inflation. Brent crude fell by 3.3% to the USD102 per barrel level as Saudi Arabia said it can restore around half of its damaged East-West pipeline’s capacity within days and resume full operations within six weeks. Furthermore, yesterday the US Federal Reserve raised its interest rates by 25 basis points in line with expectations. The independence of the Federal Reserve was evident as the decision to increase rates was unanimous, despite earlier comments from US President Trump for the Fed to reduce rates. The Fed also signal that another rate hike is likely this year as monetary conditions are still not restrictive.
