Following last week's article detailing the performance of the S&P 500 index in 2025, it is worth devoting time to review the developments across the European equity markers in my last article of the year.

The MSE Equity Price Index eased by 0.09% to 4,123.6 points as the declines in six equities outweighed the gains in APS, Computime, HSBC, MPC, PG and Trident. Meanwhile, another five equities closed with the overall trading value amounting to €0.28 million. Download today’s Equity Market Summary.

International Hotel Investments plc closed the session 3.2% lower at €0.605 after partially recovering from an intraday low of €0.55 (-12%) across volumes of 37,584 shares.

Likewise, Malita Investments plc ended the session 0.5% lower to €0.436 after recovering from a low of €0.372 (-15%), which is where most of the 2,600 shares that traded changed hands.

Quinco Holdings plc plunged by 11.4% to the €0.78 level on two deals totalling 8,408 shares.

Malta International Airport plc fell by 2.4% to the €6.05 level on four trades totalling 1,300 shares.

The Convenience Shop (Holding) plc (-3.9% to €0.865) and MaltaPost plc (-2.0% to €0.49) were today’s other negative performers on low volumes.

Trident Estates plc closed the session 3.7% higher at €1.13, but the vast majority of the 6,600 shares that traded exchanged hands at €1.01 (-7.3%).

Similarly, PG plc ended the session 2.5% higher at €1.64 but most of the 7,550 shares that traded were dealt at the €1.54 level (-3.7%).

Malta Properties Company plc closed the session 0.5% higher at €0.41, but the vast majority of the 600 shares that traded exchanged hands at €0.366 (-10.3%).

HSBC Bank Malta plc advanced by 0.7% to €1.42 across volumes of 31,507 shares.

Computime Holdings plc (+4.3% to €0.48) and APS Bank plc (+5.4% to €0.59) were the other positive performers.

Bank of Valletta plc was today’s most actively traded equity as it closed unchanged at €2.13 after recovering from an intraday low of €2.10 (-1.4%) across 11 deals totalling 53,939 shares.

Also among the large companies by market value, GO plc closed unchanged at the €2.50 level across six deals totalling 19,750 shares.

AX Real Estate plc held the €0.49 level across volumes of 25,000 shares.

Mapfre Malta plc (€1.42) and Simonds Farsons Cisk plc (€5.70) closed unchanged on muted activity.

Following the close of trading, MIDI plc announced that the final deed of sale and purchase in respect of the eleven commercial premises which underlie the Pjazza Blocks as well as the building known as Unit T3 was executed, in line with the terms of the transaction set in the promise of sale agreement signed in December 2025. The consideration for the sale amounted to €10.2 million. MIDI reiterated that the net proceeds from the sale will be applied towards the redemption of the €50 million bond which is due on 27 July 2026.

The RF MGS Index remained virtually unchanged at 889.3 points as the minimal increase in CBM bid prices for short-dates MGS was offset by the drop in CBM bid prices for longer-dated ones, implying a steepening yield curve. Crude oil prices increased for the third consecutive day due to supply constraints, leading to additional concerns of inflation.
