BOV reaches highest level since April 2006
Following last week's article detailing the performance of the S&P 500 index in 2025, it is worth devoting time to review the developments across the European equity markers in my last article of the year.
The MSE Equity Price Index advanced by 0.62% to a two-week high of 4,376.7 points as the gains in BOV, Malta Properties, BMIT and IHI outweighed the declines in Lombard and MaltaPost. Five other equities closed unchanged, with total trading value amounting to €0.27 million. Download today’s Equity Market Summary.
Bank of Valletta plc was the most actively traded equity, accounting for 66% of the total value traded across local equities, as it closed 1.3% higher at its highest level since April 2006 of €2.40 across 22 deals totalling 75,222 shares.
Malta Properties Company plc was the best performer as it jumped 4.2% to €0.448 across two deals totalling 11,818 shares.
BMIT Technologies plc rebounded by 4.0% to €0.26, although most of the 40,300 shares that traded exchanged hands at the previous closing price of €0.25.
International Hotel Investments plc moved 3.3% higher to €0.62, albeit nearly all of the 3,000 shares that traded changed hands at €0.60. Today, IHI announced that it has entered into contractual arrangements to develop an ultra-luxury hotel and branded residential project on Grace Bay in Turks & Caicos in partnership with Carolina Partners Ltd. The development will comprise a 50-key all-suite Corinthia-branded hotel and a collection of branded residences, with construction anticipated to commence in 2027.
Today’s only negative performers were Lombard Bank Malta plc, which fell by 2.7% to €0.72 across two deals totalling 10,000 shares, and MaltaPost plc as it slipped 2.0% to €0.48 on a single trade of 1,646 shares.
GO plc closed unchanged at €2.48 across four deals totalling 18,320 shares.
HSBC Bank Malta plc held the €1.49 level on two deals of 8,500 shares.
Plaza Centres plc stayed at the €0.83 level on a single trade of 9,385 shares and Mapfre Malta plc closed unchanged at €1.34 across two deals of 1,341 shares.
MIDI plc stayed at €0.21 on a single trade of 3,000 shares.
The RF MGS Index edged 0.10% higher to 880.1 points reflecting the further decline in eurozone sovereign bond yields in early trading. However, yields moved higher later in the day, with the German 10-year rising to 3.52% from 3.45%, after stronger-than-expected PMI data showed that euro area business activity is accelerating in September. Furthermore, the spread between French and German 10-year yields increased to over one percentage point, its widest since early 2012, after Scope Ratings downgraded France to A+ from AA-. French 10-year bond yield stood at the 4.6% level, which is around 15 basis points more than Italy and around 45 basis points more than the comparable Malta Government Stocks.
