Following last week's article detailing the performance of the S&P 500 index in 2025, it is worth devoting time to review the developments across the European equity markers in my last article of the year.

The MSE Equity Price Index fell by 0.66% to 4,375.3 points as the declines in nine equities outweighed the gains in RS2 and Malita. A further nine equities closed unchanged, while total trading value dropped to €0.16 million. Download today’s Equity Market Summary.

RS2 plc closed the session 0.4% higher at €0.45 although the vast majority of the 38,123 shares that traded exchanged hands at €0.44 (-1.8%).

Bank of Valletta plc was the most actively traded equity, accounting for 20% of today’s trading value, as it closed unchanged at €2.40 across seven deals totalling 13,632 shares after recovering from an intraday low of €2.37 (-1.3%).

The RF MGS Index slipped 0.06% to 871.5 points. While several eurozone sovereign bond yields rose in early trading, they eased later in the day, with the German 10-year yield dropping to 3.59% from 3.64% yesterday amid a decline in the Brent oil price below USD104 per barrel. Nonetheless, data released today showed that Spain’s annual inflation rate accelerated to 4.9% in September, its highest level since February 2023 and above the 4.7% expected, mainly driven by higher fuel prices.
