Following last week's article detailing the performance of the S&P 500 index in 2025, it is worth devoting time to review the developments across the European equity markers in my last article of the year.

The MSE Equity Price Index fell by 0.36% to a fresh two-week low of 3,961.1 points driven by declines in BOV, Lombard and RS2. Meanwhile, four equities closed unchanged as today’s trading activity amounted to €0.67 million. Download today’s Equity Market Summary.

Bank of Valletta plc was today’s most actively traded equity, accounting for over 90% of today’s value traded as it eased by 1.0% to the €2.01 level across nine trades totalling 300,000 shares having a market value of €0.60 million. Last Friday, BOV published a Base Prospectus for a €650 million Euro Medium Term Note Programme following approval by the Central Bank of Ireland. On Monday, BOV announced its intention to issue up to €300 million Callable Senior Preferred Notes under the programme, with a maturity of 6 years, callable after 5 years.

Also in the banking sector, Lombard Bank Malta plc shed 2.0% to the €0.74 level across two deals totalling 750 shares.

RS2 plc fell by 3.4% to the €0.28 on a single trade of 218 shares.

Meanwhile, APS Bank plc closed unchanged at €0.55 across nine trades totalling 30,978 shares.

GO plc closed unchanged the €2.46 level across four trades totalling 4,920 shares.

Hili Properties plc traded flat at the €0.27 level across three trades totalling 114,200 shares.

Malta International Airport plc held the €6.20 level across two trades totalling 327 shares. Following the close of trading on Monday, MIA published the Q1 2026 results. Revenue amounted to €32.5 million, which is 11.0% higher than the comparable figure of €29.2 million in 2025. The profit before tax rose by 11.4% to €14.6 million. Overall, MIA generated a net profit of €9.31 million in the first quarter of the year compared to €8.47 million in the comparable period in 2025.

The RF MGS Index fell by 0.17% to 886.546 points. Eurozone inflation in April rose to 3.0% compared to 2.6% in the previous month as anticipated. Meanwhile, core CPI eased marginally to 2.2% year-on-year (March: 2.3%). Meanwhile, producer prices in Germany rose 1.7% in April 2026, compared to a 0.2% decline in March and marking the first annual increase since February last year. The reading exceeded market forecasts of 1.5% and represented the highest producer inflation since May 2023, driven primarily by higher intermediate goods prices and energy costs.
